Pope Francis Blessed the Statue of St. Catherine from Vrgorac

The St. Catherine has a close spiritual connection to Vrgorac from the time of the liberation from the Turks in the 17th century.

The St. Catherine has a close spiritual connection to Vrgorac from the time of the liberation from the Turks in the 17th century.

According to Vrgoračke Novine, last year, on the 325th anniversary of the liberation, an initiative for returning to the celebration of the feast has been started. It resulted in making of a statue of the Holy Kate in Naples, which was brought to Vatican by the fifty pilgrims from the Vrgorac parish, led by the priest Fr. Ivica Omazić to an audience with the Pope Francis on April 20, 2016.

The Holy Father blessed and prayed over the statue. During the audience, the statue of St. Kate was placed at the entrance to the Basilica of St. Peter.
