Call To Action! Cleaning Up Petka!

Lauren Simmonds

As the human realisation that taking care of the environment only gets stronger, so do the calls to action when it comes to the ”green minded” among us!

The public institution for the management of protected areas of Dubrovnik-Neretva County has initiated the selfless action of cleaning the roads and collecting waste of all kinds on Velika and Mala Petka. The two pine covered hills are a breath of fresh air from the city itself and cut striking silhouettes over Dubrovnik. For many years, the two areas have been the locations of choice for numerous people, particularly for hikers, runners, joggers and dog walkers.

The aim of the action is to clear the lowland paths and to collect mixed municipal waste at several locations within the general area of Velika and Mala Petka to show citizens the need for greater care and attention to the preservation of the environment, not only locally but in general. The action will also add to the overall improvement and protection of parkland as well as the abundant greenery and nature of the area The City of Dubrovnik.

The cleaning operation will be held on Thursday, the 24th of May, 2017 and will begin at 15:00.
