There is no better way of marking the official beginning of summer than to conveniently celebrate this long weekend by one of Shakespeare’s classics: A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, to be performed on Fort Lovrijenac!
Dubrovnik again joins the major cultural manifestation known as Midsummer Scene, the only English theatre festival organised in Southeastern Europe.
In 2016, Dubrovnik has seen a great performance of another Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Hamlet – and it was the first time a woman played the titular role in the history of Croatian theatre.
This year, the audience in Dubrovnik will enjoy a new version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this time directed by Helen Tennison. The event is organised Brilliant Events, Dubrovnik and Honey-tongued Theatre Productions Ltd. London and supported by the City of Dubrovnik and the Tourist Board of Dubrovnik. The premiere is set for Saturday, June 24, but if you can’t make it, don’t worry – the fort will host a performance of the cult play every day until July 5. The event starts at 9.30 PM, making for a perfect night under the open summer sky at one of the most picturesque locations in Dubrovnik.
