Lazareti quarantine was originally built in order to tackle the problems with a high mortality rate due to the Medieval incurable diseases such as plague and malaria that ravaged Europe in the Middle Ages. If the person held in a quarantine for a period of approximately one month is proven healthy, they would be released in to the city. Today Lazareti is home to a variety of local cultural groups and independent center of cultural production, as well as a club hosting DJs and musicians. Spanning over three levels: inner, terrace and the beach, this unique club focuses on promoting both world famous artists and local / regional musicians, particulary the less commercial music genres such as punk, electronic and ethno music.
