Kumpanija is a traditional folk ensemble and sword dance that uses a drum and a bagpipe, usually performed in Blato but sometimes also in the near-by places Smokvica, Čara and Pupnat. The sword dance displays the local militia who were once used to protect the towns from invaders.
The dance is always performed on the 28th of April for the celebration of St. Vicenza’s Day, protector of Blato town. But if you visit in the summer months, you may still have a chance to experience this ancient chivalrous event in person.
Kumpanija is listed by the Ministry of Culture in the Republic of Croatia as intangible cultural heritage.
