“Full of life? You mean, full of shit,” says a disgruntled resident of Korčula.

While media attention is much further north, in the Bay of Savudrija, measuring whether Slovenia has occupied a few square kilometres of the Croatian Adriatic, garbage has occupied one of Croatia’s island pearls. After bathing Dubrovnik, strong southern winds brought massive garbage piles to the island of Korčula, as Morski.hr reported on January 10, 2018.

Croatia is promoted around the world with the slogan Full of Life. “Full of life? You mean, full of shit,” says one irritated resident of Korčula who has been cleaning someone else’s garbage around his small fishing boat for the past two months. “Our health is at stake, and no one is taking care of us down here! Hello, this is your country as well! Is the government normal?,” he asked.

“It seems pumping the egos of those out of the media spotlight is more important, so they bully the people with the threat of guns! The war is down south, has been for years! Are the current ministers worried? Is the Prime Minister worried? Did the President wave to the garbage cleaners from the south of Croatia?,” wrote a citizen of Dubrovnik.

More such reactions have been received by the editorial board of the Morski.hr portal in the last month from residents of Dubrovnik, Šipan, Lopud, Mljet, Korčula, Pelješac, even Vis and Dugi Otok.
