June 23, 2018 – Taking a closer look at the Korcula Hill accommodation experience in Zrnovska Banja.
During my short association with the island of Korcula, I have spent a little time in a bay north of the town called Zrnovska Banja, and I have been fortunate enough to stay at the two best accommodation options there – Tara’s Lodge in the centre of the bay, and Korcula Hill as you enter. Both are run by foreigners, who have invested heavily in the island, and both are relatively unknown to locals, who are aware of the projects, but few have been to visit. I wrote previously about my first visit to Korcula Hill and what an impressive project it is, but that was before I actually stayed there, which I finally did last weekend.
There is no need to repeat what I wrote in the previous article, this is more of a guest experience, which cemented further my first impressions as a visitor. Take a moment, if you will, to take a tour of the new Olive apartments, the latest Korcula Hill additions which were finished only last week. The breathtaking view aside, I have rarely stayed in accommodation in Croatia with so much space. Rather than returning to a hotel room, whatever the luxury, this immediately felt like returning home. All mod cons were expensively and extensively in place, and very nice small touches, such as orange juice and water in the fridge for thirsty arrivals who had not yet had the time to shop.
Another thing which struck me on arrival was the peace and tranquillity. The arresting view was disarming, but after a busy day wandering the streets of Korcula Town, it was a pleasure to escape to a little haven of silence, sit on the sofa and relax after a day in the heat. A combination of benefiting from the proximity of the considerable joys of Korcula Town and then returning to a tranquil setting with a view to die was appealing indeed.
It is clear that no expense has been spared on the fixtures and fittings, and the layout of the apartment was nicely done to ensure maximum privacy for two couples. Me, I was exhausted and ready for a good sleep. Having been on the road for a few days in various parts of Croatia and Montenegro, I fantasised about a comfortable bed, no noisy neighbours and curtains or shutters which could blot out the light and enable a decent sleep.
At Korcula Hill, I got my wish and more. The shutters worked perfectly, and this was the bedroom view as I prepared to sleep. Total blackness. Bliss. I decided to do what I rarely do – turn off my phone and see if I could truly escape life for a few hours. With zero sound to bother me, I got my answer 11 hours later as I awoke in the darkness, totally refreshed.
Korcula Hill is more than just accommodation, it is an emerging resort, with several facilities already on site and many more to come. Tennis lovers can take advantage of the court at the back of the complex, just one of several sporting options either installed (basketball/soccer playground, hiking and mountain bike trail, beach with beach bar and aqua park) and coming next year (large pool, outdoor fitness area and restaurant). You can also pop into the main bar close to reception.
