It was just as festive and as joyous as we’d expected!
As we’ve already written, on June 30th Korčula celebrates Half New Year’s Eve, with a costume party and procession that takes place in the town, as well as many other party events in the town that day.
First of, there was a serious part of the celebration, because a meeting of the towns in Croatia that organize Carnivals in the spring took place yesterday in Korčula. In the afternoon, the costumed procession displayed their best outfits, and it included troupes from all of the places on Korčula, as well as Orebić, Viganj, Potomje, Ston, Dubrovnik, Cavtat, Župa dubrovačka, Zagreb, Kutina, Virovitica, Sinj, Biograd. There were international guests this year as well, as Karaševska Zora troupe from Romania also participated.
After the procession there was a concert on the main square, so-called Plokata, where the band Sabioncello from Orebić and a popular Croatian singer Jole entertained the crowd. At midnight, there were kisses, champaigne and a fireworks from the Cathedral
