Korčula’s sword dancing season is well and truly underway, one of the great summer highlights on the island.
And while the most famous dance is the Moreška, which you can see every Thursday from 21:00 (next performance on June 28), if you are willing to travel a little further inland, there are several opportunities to see the other sword dances on the island, starting with gorgeous Čara on June 29, on the occasion of the Feast of St. Peter.
The festive performance of Kumpanija sword dance, Music society Crnomiri are part of the evening programme.
Čara has preserved the sword dance Kumpanija, which is performed on June the 29th on the feast of St. Peter, the parish church patron saint.
The tradition of singing Dalmatian popular folk songs has also been preserved.
Old customs have been preserved in the village, among the best known being the sword battle “Kumpanija” as well as the ancient dances performed by young men and girls.
