The Great Harbor of Western Korčula

Total Croatia News

Vela Luka, translated as Great Harbor, occupies the entire western approach to Korčula Island. It has an average of over 2500 hours of sunny weather annually, and is the second largest place by area on the Adriatic islands, with a population of just over 4.000. The diversity and richness of the cultural inheritance of Vela Luka can be seen in the exceptional museums and galleries that are located in the Center for Culture in the town center.

Peculiarities of the place include the Kalos center for rheumatoid disorders and rehabilitation (based on medicinal mud) as well as the Vela Spila (Great Cave), which contains an unbroken sequence of sediments from the late Mesolithic to the Neolithic and proof of continuous inhabitance from the early Stone Age (about 20.000 years BC).
