After having signed the contracts for the works in early October, things seem to be moving along.
Manager of the County Port Authority for Korčula, Vedran Leleković signed the contract with the company Pomgrad inženjering, which was chosen to perform the construction works on the new docks. The contract is worth over 10 million kuna.
The works are supposed to take place in two phases, with the first phase already started, with its completion projected to happen until the end of this year, and the second phase is expected to start right away.
As was planned, the construction has already started, so some changes had to happen in order to facilitate the construction workers. The Port Authority notified the public that parking right next to the build site, close to the ferry slip, was not allowed any more. The cars parked there will be removed at the expense of the owners, and Port Authority can not be held accountable for any damage to the cars parked there.
At the same time, another major change in the Korčula marine infrastructure is slowly happening: the Spatial Plan for Polačišta area, where the new port and ferry docks for Korčula are supposed to be built, were presented to the public. After the public consultation process on the Plan is finished (October 31 is the last day when the interested parties can submit their opinions on the plan), the next steps will be undertake. The start of the construction for the new port is planned for 2020, and once it’s done, it is expected to accept larger criuse ships, which couldn’t dock at either the west or the east port of Korčula town, as well as ferries connecting Korčula to the mainland.
