While the temperature now is below thirty degrees, it is hot enough that it is still more comfortable to be at the beach than at home or on the city streets. Although the hellish heat eased after recent rains, and the thermometer at night shows “comfortable” 28 degrees, after sunset many people go to the city beaches.
“We arrived here after work to relax a bit. Although we were planning to go swimming, it’s a little too cold. But, I think it’s a lot more comfortable than the last few days”, said Vanda Bogdanović who was sitting with her friends on plastic deck chairs set around the beach. “Our jobs do not allow us to come to the beach earlier, but in the middle of the tourist season it is even better this way, because it is not so crowded”, said Vanda.
Most people have used the break in the heat wave to visit coffee shops. Žnjan is adding new coffee shops almost daily. “We came here in the late afternoon, we started chatting and I have to say that I did not even notice that it was already dark”, said one of the visitors. “I can’t remember really when was the last time that I was in sea at night, probably in high school.”
For many, night swimming is a sweet memory from their youth, so the beach at night is mainly dominated by high school and university students. Playing cards and good company are a winning combination for long summer nights.
“We came here in the afternoon to swim and we just stayed here. We play cards, and tomorrow we do not have anything very important to do so we can stay here”, said a group from Visoka and Pujanka city districts.
