Film Festival in Split Celebrates 20th Anniversary

After enjoying a lot of well visited events during July and August, September in Split is definitely considered as a bit slow month. Temperatures get lower and as summer slowly goes away locals and tourists can entertain themselves by going to cinema.

Obviously, there are a lot of blockbusters to choose from in two biggest cinemas in town, but better idea would be just go around centre and be part of Split Film Festival and give a chance to new, undiscovered films and actual art of filmmaking.

Well known as one of most interesting events in Split during mid September, Split Film Festival has 20th anniversary this year. Split film festival / International festival of new film will take place on various locations around city centre where you can attend film screenings, outdoor screenings, workshops, seminars, lectures. Some of the locations include Cinema Central, Karaman, Zlatna vrata, Gallery of fine arts, City library Marko Marulic and Academy of arts.

As the oldest international film festival in Croatia, it has the image of leading festival in the area and always attracts audience to meet new directors and their work as well as see already established films.

This years festival with “The year of light” main theme is divided in 8 different programs. There will be 9 feature length films and 41 short films. Most of them will have premiere screening in Croatia as part of the festival.

Different sections and programs try to cover competition of short and feature length films, and sections like Forum 4, Libido, Frame Extended, Reflections and Croatian Film.

The most intriguing films will come from countries like Tanzania, Morocco, Egypt, Afghanistan, Thailand, Vietnam and Peru.

On the opening ceremony this Saturday, you will have the chance to see film Violence / Violencia, by Columbian director Jorge Forer, also featured this year on Berlinale.

In the next week, you can choose from plenty of films and workshops to attend. One of workshops worth mentioning is definitely film criticism workshop as well as lectures which are part of educational cinema programme „E(d)u Kino program“.
