We knew that Marjan hill is rich with many animal and plant species, but a discovery by one cave-explorer is still a surprise. Tonci Radja, head of speleology society Spiljar, found an Etruscan shrew, or in Latin sorex etruscus, the smallest mammal living on Earth, reported Dalmacija News. Unfortunately, this small animal was found dead, Radja believes that probably some cat caught it.
This rare and beautiful animal is a beetle-eater, they are usually long between 35 and 50 millimeters, and weigh up to only four grams. They are more active during the night, especially before dawn. They mostly live in Asia and Mediterranean, mostly in pine wood forests.
