If you want to enrol your children into an English-speaking school in Zagreb, there are four completely international schools, and two gymnasiums with bilingual programs where some classes are taught in English, while some are taught in Croatian, which may be a good choice if you want your child to learn and be exposed to both languages.

1. American International School of Zagreb

In their own words, the American International School of Zagreb is a culturally diverse learning community that provides students with an intellectually stimulating program. Students are encouraged to be creative individuals, critical thinkers, life-long learners, and socially responsible world citizens.

Founded in 1966, this school follows a US curriculum model (PK-12) and it’s divided into Lower School (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5; i.e. from age 3 to age 10) and Upper School (Middle School and High School), when they can also take part in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), and the Diploma is recognized by universities all over the world.

2. British International School of Zagreb

The British International School of Zagreb  (BISZ) was founded in 2013, in partnership with  Kreativan razvoj Primary School, one of the leading private primary schools in Zagreb.

Students work in small classes and the Primary Section follows the English National Curriculum alongside the inquiry based International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
BISZ is also the first Cambridge International School in Croatia which offers a Cambridge Secondary (IGCSE) and Cambridge Advanced (International AS and A Level) qualification, which, if students pass it successfully, gives them the option to enrol into any university in the world.

3. International British School Bright Horizons

IBSZ Bright Horizons was founded in 2006, when it started offering nursery and pre-school programs, and an expansion into Primary education occurred in 2013. The principle of teaching at this school lies in educating the whole child. Your children will develop into responsible global citizens, guided by honesty, integrity and respect for others.
IBSZ Bright Horizons offers a developmental curriculum in line with the UK National Curriculum. It is structured and balanced to ensure the children cover a range of subjects, with strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy.
Year/Grade groups are divided into distinctive areas:
• Primary : Years 1 to 6 (age 5-11)
• Middle school: Years 7 to 8 (age 11-14)

4. XV. gimnazija (MIOC)

In addition to offering a regular program in Croatian, this gymnasium has been an IB (International Baccalaureate) School since 1991. The program is based on modern, highly demanding and challenging curriculum and pedagogy. It’s divided into the Middle Years Program (Grades 1 and 2) and the Diploma Program (Grades 3 and 4).

The annual tuition fee is 23,000 kn for Croatian and EU citizens, and 46,000 kn for non-EU citizens.

5. The French International School of Zagreb

In their words, The”>French International School of Zagreb (FISZ) is a multilingual international school where passionate teachers inspire the love of learning and critical thinking. The school is open to all, including students who speak little to no French. English learning begins in kindergarten, in addition to Croatian.

FISZ’s rigorous curriculum, aligned with French and Croatian standards, is focused on ensuring their students enter the world grounded, motivated, and prepared. 

Students can continue their studies at any other French school or university in the world. They can also transfer to a Croatian school or university, or any other European or Anglo-Saxon institution.
