A collection of 950 neckties is on display at the Mimara Museum
An exhibition titled “Kravata – Croata: 950 cravats for 950 years of Šibenik” opened in the Mimara Museum on Wednesday, April 19th 2017.
The project was conceived by Jagoda Sablić, executive producer of the International Children’s Festival Šibenik, who set out to collect 950 neckties to mark the City’s 950th anniversary. Numerous public figures including musicians, artists, actors, athletes, journalists and politicians donated their neckties to add to the collection that was first exhibited last year in City library “Juraj Šižgorić” in Šibenik.
As the word spread, neckties started to come in from various parts of the world and the collection now includes pieces sent from the US, Canada and Australia. Cravats were also donated by citizens of Šibenik and residents of multiple towns Šibenik is twinned with.
All 950 cravats are on display in Mimara until Sunday, April 23rd when the collection will be donated to a non-profit institution Academia Cravatica that studies and preserves the cravat as Croatian heritage.
