Croatian Environment Agency and Public Institution Maksimir are organizing educational tours to get to know spring flowers of Croatia and Maksimir Park and prepare for spring.
Free educational tours, led by expert botanists, will be organized tomorrow, on March 20, at 10, 11, 12 and 13:00.
Some of the flowers you’ll see during the tour are snowdrop, primrose, anemone, spring snowflake, violet, dogtooth violet, and others. You’ve probably seen most of these plants in meadows and woods, but some of them are unfortunately endangered so educating people about them is of vital importance.
Spring flowers play a crucial role in our eco system. In early spring while other plants aren’t in bloom yet, they provide nectar and pollen for the busy insects that visit and pollinate them.
Their colourful flowers and delicious aroma make spring flowers important for the perfume industry, as well as horticulture, cooking and also folk medicine and homeopathy, not to mention how inspirational they are for visual arts like painting and drawing.
The effect humans have on nature is constantly increasing and it definitely shouldn’t be underestimated, and this is why the organizers have decided to use this opportunity to teach people about the role these beautiful flowers play in our lives.
