More and more tourists foreign tourists are visiting Sljeme, with some staying up to two months.
Zagreb hills are no longer a winter-exclusive spot in the city; the accommodation facilities are full in summer, with tourists coming from Poland, Germany, and Austria, to spend their time in the beautiful nature and enjoy the average temperature of 22 degrees, Večernji list reports on August 18, 2017.
“It’s human nature, you need to eat and drink, and I need to go to Sljeme,” alpinist Tomislav Zoričić says climbing down from Medvednica mountain. Yesterday he climbed the peak he has been climbing to two or three times a week since he’s retired. He’s been hiking for 40 years and, even though he climbed Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, Kavkaz, and Triglav (13 times!), he thinks that Sljeme is the most beautiful of them all.
“I love the area around St. Jacob’s chapel, as well as Činovnička livada and Ponikve. Everything around here is stunning,” the 66-year-old says.
People from Zagreb mostly spend their weekends here, while the rest of the week is reserved for foreign tourists. Most of them come from Poland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and Slovenia. The vast majority of the visitors are senior citizens who spend up to two months at Sljeme.
“This is our second time here, we love how the air is clean and nature is gorgeous,” Magdolna Halapi, who is visiting her family in Zagreb, says.
Nanbudo Martial Art school and Confucius Institute members also like to spend their time in Zagreb’s green oasis, and Tomislavov dom Hotel was home to a group of Buddhists, with teachers coming from Nepal, and students from all over the world.
