A meeting between Anka Slonjšak, ombudswoman for persons with disabilities, and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić resulted in a series of measures which will be introduced in order to improve the quality of transportation of persons with disabilities.

Two specialized ZET vehicles will be introduced for transport of persons with disabilities during night time. Person with disabilities haven’t had this possibility before, so the 24-hour transport service will undoubtedly make their lives easier.

Another change concerns taxi drivers, who will in future provide the service of transportation to assistant dogs as well. The City Assembly will decide on this motion during their session in April. The decision will be posted on the websites of Zagreb Tourist Board and the City of Zagreb so that tourists are familiar with all their transport options.

It was also decided that the City of Zagreb will co-finance the customization of taxi vehicles to adapt them for people with disabilities’ use. Ms. Slošnjak announced that training for the drivers will also be provided in order to help familiarize them with the process and specifics of providing transportation services to persons with disabilities.

Another positive change will be adding movable ramps to enable free access for people with disabilities to 142 low-floor trams.
The city will also finance the purchase of four specialized vehicles for the transportation needs of people with disabilities, the so-called “London car”. These vehicles are completely customized for wheelchair users, as well as for customers who are blind and deaf.
