The Piece of Zagreb Project, which we wrote about in April here, announced the winners of the best authentic Zagreb souvenirs contest on May 10.
The project aims to find new ways of thinking and creating authentic Zagreb souvenirs created through an interdisciplinary approach by cooperation between applied artists, craftspeople, and everyone involved in the process of making material culture.
Another aim of this project is creating the first systematic collection of Zagreb souvenirs that will continually grow with future calls for tenders. Their communicative, symbolic and identity quality makes them suitable for everyday use, which will promote cultural heritage and local values.
There were 125 entries and instead of awarding the best entries with different places, i.e. first, second and third prizes, the jury has decided to award the three best entries with equal prizes of 12,000 HRK each. Seven additional entries have been given a certificate and 1,000 HRK, and one of them was given a special award.
The three best entries are bok-bot chatbot by Srđan Laterza
Pop_lun backpack and mat by Oddinary Studio
and Zagrebački kompletić tablecloth and napkins by Valentina Sunek and Paula Šantić.
Special award was given to Škrlak i Šestine project by Nu Studio j.d.o.o. the idea of which is to apply traditional ethno motifs to usable everyday objects.
