“I am happy and proud because we have found a solution to help people with disabilities move easier. Installing wheelchair ramps shows how serious we are and this makes Zagreb a city of equal opportunities for all citizens,” Mayor Bandić said, adding that ramps will be installed in all 142 low-floor trams in the next month.
Ljuba Žgela Romčević, head of a ZET branch office explained that these ramps add more quality to the public transport system, both for the city and for people with disabilities.
“Ramps cannot be used completely independently due to different curb heights. They will work well at stops with high curbs, and drivers or fellow citizens will assist people with disabilities to enter the tram at low curb stops. This also means that specially organized transportation for people with disabilities will not be as extremely busy as they are now,” Ms. Žgela Romčević concluded.
