Scenes of Zagreb painted outdoors.
The streets of Zagreb are so bright and vivid, especially in springtime and autumn, with their combination of textures, colours, and people, it’s no wonder many artists feel inspired by them.
One of the latest examples I’ve stumbled upon on Twitter is Marc Dalessio, a plein air landscape painter and portrait artist from the USA. Influenced by The Oration on the Dignity of Man by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, he believes that a painter should not develop a personal style, but to allow nature to depict itself, and, as he says, the artist is nature revering itself. Finding inspiration in the natural world, he says, is the first step towards building an environmentally sustainable future for humanity.
He paints en plein air, meaning outdoors, which is a style that was advocated by famous artists throughout history, including Claude Monet, or Pierre-Auguste Renoir. So far, he has painted scenes from Ilica, Novi Zagreb, Središće, and Avenija Dubrovnik, and we are really looking forward to seeing more Zagreb paintings!
