Of all the changes I have noticed in the 13 years since I first moved to Dalmatia, one of the biggest has been the atmosphere in the old town of Split. Diocletian’s Palace used to be dead at night in the winter months, and I remember the owners of the first legal hostel in the old town telling me that the only place to entertain their guests was in a bar next to the bus station.
How times change! Advent in Split has transformed the city in the winter months, and the vibe in the old town was unbelievable. I was delighted to accept an invitation to join an international delegation from FIJET, the World Federation of Tourism Writers and Journalists to light the third Advent calendar in Split yesterday – you can read about our trip to Advent in Split here.
And of course, I was not surprised to find a Hvar link out there somewhere. It comes in the form of the team of Restaurant Gariful and Split partner, who it seems are keeping busy even if the restaurant is now closed for the season.
The stand is called Barrique, and it is located on Prokurative, the impressive square at the end of the palace. The stand has some snacks and all manner of drinks, as well as the traditional warm Gariful welcome. If you are in Split, go and say hello, and follow Advent on Prokurative here.
