This year’s feedback from Jurin Podrum in Stari Grad is one of a warm family welcome and some rather exciting natural dishes.
There are some restaurants you visit for the view as well as the food, others for the ambiance. To get in touch with your inner calm, the place to head to is Jurin Podrum in the old town of Stari Grad, and it would seem that recent TripAdvisor reviews would agree with me.
Restaurant owner Silvija is one of the most natural restauranteurs on Hvar – passionate about her menu and the ingredients that comprise it, and in one of the most relaxed atmospheres on any eatery on the island. One instantly feels part of the family, as one foreigner with a house in Stari Grad recently put it:
“Have been coming to Hvar Island for 10 years and the last few years saw a change of management and menu at Jurin Podrum in Stari Grad. And what a wonderful change! I would recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting this part of Hvar Island.
Sylvija has the ability to make everyone feel special. The ingredients are organic, fresh and well balanced in every dish.
Today all the ATM machines was off due to lack of internet access and as I walked past JP, Silvija beckoned me in for something to eat. My reply: “Sorry I can’t, all ATM’s off” to which she replied: “No problem, come sit down, you can pay me whenever!”
You feel like part of the family.”
It is not the biggest restaurant by any means, and the cosy interior and outdoor tables on the narrow streets add to that intimate and homely feel. A dining experience of which I have only heard positives such as that above. And if you want to impress your friends, this is a restaurant of royal pedigree, where Edward and Mrs. Simpson had lunch in 1936.
