Ok, so people are swimming on Hvar in December. Sure, it would be a shame not to try it out in this beautiful weather..
But what about January? From my own experience, January is the one month, when swimming on Hvar will feel like pins-and-needles. During January, the sea temperature is really getting to the lowest point, or at least it feels like “it was so much warmer in December”.
I would definitely recommend to slowly adjust your body to lower sea temperatures by continuously swimming through summer, autumn and winter. That is, of course, if you have the sea on hand (a lake or a river would do too) .
There is the other option. You can just jump right in on January 1 at Bonj in Hvar town together with several others, who will gather at 13:00 to start a new tradition.
Organised by PlatFORma initiative, everyone is welcome to start the New Year in a bathing suit.
