The Jelsa Tourist Board has announced the programme for one of the most eagerly awaited events of the season – Festa Vina, or the Jelsa Wine Festival.
There are some positive changes from last year’s festival, including an important one for the main target group a tourist board is supposed to be targeting – tourists!
Notice anything different between last year’s programme? This year, the language of English has been added, so tourists actually know what is going on.
The other big change this year from a quick look at the programme is that Hvar Wine Association will be playing a major part in the event – as they should – a far cry from last year’s event when the town of wine had a festival of wine… with no wine.
I understand that there will be an attempt at upping the quality this year, with more of a focus on wine and indigenous products, which is more than welcome, as recent Festa Vina events – while lots of fun – had little to do with Jelsa’s rich wine tradition.
There will be the traditional donkey races (see below), tug o’ war and climbing the rope for the prsut, and there is lots going on for all the family, so if you are on Hvar (or nearby), come on over…
