Over 223 cities all over Croatia are participating in this year´s Book Night, which will take place tomorrow, April 22, 2016, day before the World Book Night – April 23, 2016 (in memory of Shakespeare´s death on April 23 as well as that of Miguel de Cervantes on April 22).
Libraries, bookshops, publishing houses and educational institutions are organising various programmes to celebrate this day. Hvar island is participating with Jelsa, Stari Grad and Hvar town, each having a programme:
Jelsa: “Donkihotizam” (Quixotism)
A musical and theatrical evening in memory of Miguel de Cervantes with a special programme “Quixotism – then and now” prepared by Jelsa high school students will take place on April 22, 2016 at 19.00 at the Jelsa Library.
Stari Grad: “Predvečerje s knjigom” (An Evening with a Book)
A series of lectures about the world of books will take place at the Galerija Stari Grad Uliks at 18.00. Translating different authors, Copyright Law in Croatia, dialect literature, new forms of books (e-books and audiobooks), youth creativity, book design, new works by the members of the Uliks association.
Hvar: Hvar town Library
The evening will start at 18:30 with awarding the winners of the photo contests “Hvar Zimi 2016”, followed by the presentation of the private collection of books of Nikša Petrić, Hvar archaeologist, and poet. From 19.00 a lecture held by Eduard Visković and Nebojša Cingeli about the archaeological explorations of the Arsenal in the period of 2014-2016 will take place. The evening will be completed by Milan Lakoš, who will read several poems of Nikša Petrić.
