The volunteer firefighting society Jelsa purchased on its own another new cistern made by Mercedes, with 10.000 liter capacity
The volunteer firefighting society (DVD), now with over 130 members, now has a total of 10 special vehicles to fight fires, all in excellent condition, Slobodna Dalmacija reported on February 2, 2018.
“The cistern is worth 1.2 million kuna, and we bought it with our own means after saving for many years, earning it by delivering potable water to places still off the water grid. Jelsa District is truly doing its best to settle the debt to our DVD from previous periods, so we also previously purchased a ‘basket’ which can go up to 35 meters high, occasionally used also for municipal work in settlements. With god technical equipment we are also investing in better personnel training, so we expect to be completely ready for the coming firefighting season and be able to handle all potential challenges not only locally, but even beyond,” said Igor Deanović, DVD Jelsa president.
District Chief Nikša Peronja stated in October of 2017 during a ceremonial assembly marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of DVD Jelsa, they will procure another B class vehicle (1+2 persons) with 3.800 liter capacity, co-financed by the Split-Dalmatia County with 20%, currently in process. Thus the total equipment level of Jelsa firefighters will be further elevated, also increasing their efficiency in fire interventions, which we hope they will not have at all.
