May I Have This Dance?

Learn to dance and / or help the local folklore group..

I was 9, when I got to do a year of a Ballroom & Latin dance class. I remember, that my whole body ached after each class, as we did a lot of stretching, but the dancing part was so much fun. Learning the steps and short choreographies for different types of dances, I loved it. And even though I only danced for that one season, I walked away with basic social dancing skills, which were very useful later in my life.

For quite some time, I have a desire to join such a dancing class again, but living on an island is not exactly making it easy. A little window of hope was offered by the Jelsa Folklore Group, as they are looking for new members to join their adult section.

Ok, it may not be samba, nor rumba, but it looks like fun and this stay-at-home mother is in desperate need for some dancing, so she plans to join the group this year. I tried to convince my husband to join the folklore group with me, but I had no luck as dancing is not his thing. So, I will be there on October 3 by myself hoping to find a dance partner, which might not be so easy. I hear, there is a lack of male dancers in the group..

Let me pause here for a moment and make a quick comment for the male population – the majority of women will perceive a man, who can dance (offering his arm to her and lead her on the dance floor) very attractive. Of course, there are other qualities that makes us fall in love with a man, but being a good dancer is definitely a huge bonus.

So, if you want to try something new this winter, I encourage you to join the Jelsa folklore group – the meet up will be on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the school gym at 20:00.
