NIghtlife in Jelsa feels a little different this year, as does the destination itself. Perhaps it is because I have been away for six months, but my impression of the summer is a little different to previous years. The extension of the riva is all but finished finally, and the old town waterfront is a lot livelier than it used to be.
Certainly the view down to the old town a night is stunning.
One of my favourite places in the evening is across the water, where one can enjoy great views across the water, as and when the boat moorings allow, and a very chilled location with great service and an innovative cocktail list from the team at Mojito, Jelsa’s leading cocktail bar. There are many tourism businesses in Croatia who are waiting for things to happen, and what I appreciate about these guys – together with their sister business, Artichoke Wine Bar and Restaurant on the main riva – is the efforts they have made to lift the destination and add a rich entertainment programme, and both businesses can be credited with bringing a significant number of tourists into Jelsa from the rest of the island and further afield.
One of the things I have come to appreciate most about Mojito is that it tries to cater to different genres and musical tastes with its live music throughout the summer. It has always been a cosmopolitan place, attracting people from all ages, and it is most certainly an excellent before or after dinner. Tuesday nights is one of my faves, where the lovely voice of Ana Opacak and Lite Motive is a regular fixture for those. Listen to her in action below. I wish I had recorded the scenes from the terrace last Tuesday – gorgeous Jelsa at night, with the sole sound that of Ana’s voice. Delightful.
