With 41 days to go until voting ends for this year’s European Best Destination on the European Best Destinations website, day two of our series of 42 photos through the lens of Vedran Rafael Janic to explore the beauty of this wonderful town.
In Croatia, they call it ‘bonaca’, when the sea is so calm, it is like a millpond.
Or can be used almost as a mirror.
The waterfront of Stari Grad has been welcoming new arrivals by boat for some 2400 years, and what a spectacular arrival is guaranteed for those who sail into the deep Stari Grad Bay, ideal for sailors with its 8km depth and shelter from the fierce bura wind.
To get a true appreciation of the magic of the old town at night, take a stroll after dinner to the other side of the harbour and gaze across. If the weather is perfect (it usually is on Europe’s sunniest island), you will be able to see the timeless stone buildings lit up and mirrored in the Adriatic.
Romantic Stari Grad, home to thousands of years of history.
