As we recently reported on Total Croatia News, an international film crew is in Dalmatia shooting the life of legendary French underwater explorer, Jacques Cousteau.
The news prompted a little digging in the Meneghello archives on Palmizana, where the historical link to Cousteau and famous local man of the water, Toto Meneghello, was recorded. According to the Meneghello estate:
“Anchored in Palmizana bays in the fifties was “Calypso”, the ship of Jacques Cousteau became a source of new information about the Adriatic Sea.
But mostly because of the fame of Toto Meneghello as the greatest hunter and catcher on the groupers in this part of the world.
Dr. Gilbert Doukan, his companion and a great connoisseur of the sea wrote a book “La chasse sous marine” in 1954 which mentions the visit to Palmižana and Toto Meneghello.”
