There is nothing worse than living next to a neighbour who is over-prepared for winter.
I am a good writer, but I am the first to admit I am not the world’s best cook, mechanic or husband. But neighbours like this really do not help…
Another glorious sunny day on Hvar today, one of those fine end of season days with pleasant temperatures in the low 20s and just a few tourists to enjoy it. A perfect day to chill and relax on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
Until you come home.
Winter is coming, but it didn’t feel that way until I parked the car and went over to greet the neighbours. It is one thing to get a few logs in for the winter, it is quite another to bring in half the Amazon, complete with cutting equipment in preparation for the next few months…
Winter realities. The sun may mostly stay, but the temperature will drop, and the heating solution for many families is wood-burning stoves. Wood-burning solutions do not grow on trees – actually they are trees – and one of the most pleasant winter sounds while blogging on the terrace in late autumn is the sound of a distant chainsaw working away in the distance.
But these neighbours are really too organised – it makes me look even more incompetent than usual.
