April 21, 2018 – Pula will host a dance spectacle that will liven up the city for four days
The Istrian city of Pula will soon host a major competition: the 17th IDF World Championship in Modern Dance Sport will take place from May 23 to 27 at the Mate Parlov sports hall. This is the third time for Pula to be hosting the phenomenal dance spectacle that will involve more than two thousand dancers, arriving from twenty countries from all over the world, reports Glas Istre.
The championship will be set in motion with an opening ceremony on May 23 at 4 pm, gathering all the dancers and their entourage in front of the magnificent Pula Arena. They will head to the ancient Forum in the city centre in a glorious parade, where they will attend a welcoming ceremony at 5 pm. Presidents of all member federations of the IDF (International Dance Federation) will introduce themselves to the audience, along with the judges who will be assessing the competitors in the coming days. At the end of the event, the host country of the next edition of the IDF World Championship will be presented with the championship cup – passing on the torch, so to speak.
The competition will kick off on May 24 in the morning hours and will continue throughout the day. It will take place on three separate stages at the same time and will feature 19 disciplines grouped in 6 categories. All participating dancers first need to make it through a preliminary round in order to qualify for the semifinals and finals. After each category, the winners will be presented with awards for the first, second, and third places; those dancers who place fourth to seventh will receive certificates.
The championship is organised by the Dance studio ‘Art Dance’, a part of the Cultural-Artistic Society ‘TASA’ from Pula. They have also made all the arrangements for the IDF World Championship on the two prior occasions when it took place in Istria in 2008 and 2014.
“We’re pleased to have been given the opportunity to host so many fantastic dance troupes, top dancers from all over the world. Pula will have a chance to enjoy a four-day dance spectacle that will brighten up our city. Plenty of dancers, coaches and their families will be visiting our city, taking in the best our city of Pula and Croatian can offer. It’s worth noting that many of those who were here in 2008 and 2014 were amazed by our city, many of them returned on their own and spread the good word among other people in their home countries. This time, they’ll have a longer stay in Pula – not only in Pula, but will visit other parts of Croatia as well”, stated the organisers.
