At the rate these guys are going, we’ll end up introducing a weekly 2Cellos feature.
Stjepan Šulić and Luka Hauser released a new video on February 28, 2018. This time around, we’re not talking about a single taken from their latest album Score, but a piece that will be featured on their next album, reports Glas Istre.
Here’s a piece of info you might have not known about: the Croatian cellists are friends with Ed Sheeran, one of the most iconic pop singers and songwriters of this decade. They’ve even shared a manager for a while – oh, and met up with Sheeran for a gambling stint in Vegas on one occasion – so they finally decided to cover one of his biggest hits.
“He has often asked us when we were planning to cover one of his songs, and we thought now was the perfect moment for it. Wherever we’ve been to in the last couple of months, we kept hearing Perfect playing someplace, and we thought the song just had to get a cello cover. As soon as we came back from our American tour, we went straight to the studio and recorded it. The original has an excellent melody and tempo, so we knew it would translate perfectly to the cello. Decide for yourself. We think it fits perfectly. We hope Ed will agree”, said Hauser.
They hadn’t sent their cover to Sheeran before they released it to the public, instead wanting to surprise him with their take on his latest hit. Sheeran’s original amassed more than 766 million views on YouTube since its release in November 2017 – listen to the soothing cover in the video below:
