The documentary was shot during preparations and rehearsals for a theatre play.
The premiere of the documentary movie “Srbenka”, directed by Nebojša Slijepčević, was held at the Art Cinema in Rijeka yesterday. The audience responded favourably to the film and filled the theatre, while tickets for the premiere were sold out days in advance. The event also marked the opening of the new Art Cinema season, reports Index.hr on September 21, 2018.
The premiere was attended by filmmakers, producers, film crew and one of the protagonists of the film, Nina Batinić. The evening was opened by Art Cinema director Slobodanka Mišković. Film director Slijepčević told the audience that he was delighted that his film had the premiere in Rijeka since that is the town where the documentary was filmed.
Srbenka was filmed during the preparations and rehearsals for “Aleksandra Zec”, a play by theatre director Oliver Frljić and playwright Mladen Blažević, which was performed at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Sušak, Rijeka. Producer Rea Rajčić emphasized that the film was unique by the fact that it almost has more awards than is the number of film festivals where it has been screened.
Art Cinema director stated that the appearance of protagonists Nina Batinić, Morana Mladić and Tatjana Dragović in the film represented an extraordinary act of civic courage. The film deals with an issue of accepting others and different people, and its timeliness is visible in the number of international awards received and the festivals where it has been screened. Some of the most noteworthy awards are the Heart of Sarajevo at the Sarajevo Film Festival, as well as the nomination for the European film awards, which makes it one of the fifteen best documentary achievements in Europe.
After the premiere in Rijeka, the film will be screened starting from today in Split (Zlatna Vrata), from 25 September in Varaždin (Gaj Cinema), from 30 September in Pula (Valli Cinema), and from 4 October in Osijek (Cinema Urania), as well as in other cinemas all over the country.
