Their signature glasses have mostly geometrical shapes, but also a quality that justifies the price

The Zagreb eyewear store Oculto, an exclusive store for Ghetaldus eyeglasses, recently presented a specially designed line of eyeglasses by world renowned designers Christian Roth and Eric Domege. Although their joint brand celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2009, well-known and desired in the world, their products were not available in Croatia before.

The Luxeoptic Ltd Company, regional representative of the Dita Group to which Christian Roth Eyewear belongs to, is to be credited with the fact that Zagreb is now on the map of world cities where this niche line of designer eyeglasses can be found. The promotion was attended by the designers themselves, the initiator being Christian Roth, a German who likes to state the turning point of his life was when he was gifted Ray-Ban sunglasses at 15. He then discovered his inherent passion towards eyewear although he began his professional career in New York as an assistant to photographer Rico Puhlmann.

Several years before he had met Frenchman Eric Domege who studied marketing so the two started a business together in 1984 and created Optical Affairs. Under the Christian Roth brand, the two successfully designed during the years eyeglasses which found its way constantly on the covers of fashion magazines from Women’s Wear Daily to Vogue. In 2002 they wre honoured to participate in the design exhibition devoted to eyewear “Taking Eyeglasses Seriously” at the Milan Triennial.

In the past they have worked together with designers such as Michael Kors and Karl Lagerfeld, supported by young Marc Jacobs. Their glasses have been worn by stars like Andy Warhol, Diana Ross, Kate Moss, Agyness Dean, Claudia Schiffer and Lenny Kravitz, and now they are available to Zagreb and Croatia residents. Their signature glasses have mostly geometrical shapes, but also a quality that justifies the price, guaranteed with the materials used: acetate and titanium. Certainly a welcome refreshment in the often uniform fashion offer of accessories in Zagreb.
