“Shame and scandal upon the Holding management for lack of empathy and sensitivity towards pregnant women, women on maternity leave and parents caring for disabled children in the plan for lay-offs. Unfortunately, it is true that the Holding’s correspondence to unions contains a list of names and surnames of protected groups including pregnant women, workers on parental leave and people working part-time due to care for disabled children,” Petek wrote.
If the public reacted to the reviewed measures for stay-at-home parents saying that they were delivered without any sensitivity, empathy to or understanding of those who those measures referred to, then what will this amount to, Petek said warning that the law specifically defines the rights and possibilities regarding the cancellation of working contracts for protected workers.
He underscored that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was not informed nor consulted with regard to the restructuring plan. Those issues are not decided at the City Assembly level and that that is exclusively in the remit of the executive authority, being the mayor as the company owner’s representative, the councilor said.
Petek said that for years he has advocated that order be brought to the multi-utility company and that the number of employees should be decreased for redundant positions in administration, particularly in the City Administration, the Holding utility company and other companies owned by the City, in line with the Labour Act and the Collective Agreement and based on acceptable criteria.
Numerous citizens expected the dismissal of people employed through nepotism and favouritism, he said.
“And now one of the objectives is to dismiss pregnant women and mothers who care for disabled children,” warned Petek.
Petek is also unhappy with the communication within the city administration and towards the public, saying that in some segments this communication is worse than during the mayoral term of the deceased Milan Bandić.
