Cres Solar Plant to Supply 15000 Houses

Lauren Simmonds

Good news for Cres and the environment.

As Morski writes on the 2nd of April, 2018, the Department of Spatial Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is ready to submit a request for the issuing of a location permit for a solar power plant.

The upcoming power plant will be built on the picturesque island of Cres, north of the Orlec settlement, and will be the first solar power plant of more than 1 MW in the whole of the Republic of Croatia, and the first with so much power that has been prepared up to its location permit.

Production will be around 8.5 million kWh of electricity annually, and this will therefore be able to supply 15,000 average households, which would then stabilise the distribution network on the island.

The 6.5 MW power plant will be installed on 17.3 hectares, and divided into thirteen segments. It will be constructed in the area of an ecological network, which is why the approval of the competent ministry is still required for the initial go ahead.
