The Book Fair(y) is open until December 13, 2015
21st edition of the Book Fair(y) or San(j)am knjige was opened in Pula, Istria on December 3, 2015. As the most important Croatian gathering of books and authors, and the largest festival of writers in South East Europe, this year’s edition will host over 140 writers, publishers, artists, musicians, translators and lecturers in over 100 different programmes.
The Book Fair(y) in Istria profiled itself as a Festival of authors and publishers with a specific topic each year which is the focal point of of discussions and programmes and the central theme of this year’s edition is Island – Ghetto – Asylum. This topic is launching a discussion of the ghettoisation of freedom of speech and freedom of thought, contemporary position of migrants, asylum and asylum seekers as well as the Utopian place and paradigm of poetic and literary space.
Along with the main theme, this year’s fair also focuses on high schoolers with a special programme called Book F(or)ever which includes Q&A sessions with authors, discussions, tours of the fair and cinema by Croatian Radio Television while a special theme stand will offer a wide selection of books, comics, latest graphic novels and vinyls for this particular generation.
Thanks to the collaboration with Pula’s Art & Music festival which also promotes music and comics, this year’s Book Fair(y) will also offer a great music line-up and comic book workshops adding another dimension to the fair.
Last but not least, within it’s Regional focus, 21st Book Fair(y) presents the cultural and art scene of Belgrade in a programme called Belgrade reads. A dozen Belgrade-based writers will participate in this multimedia event encompassing Belgrade’s publishing, literary, music and film scene.
