Island manufacturers will be given ‘Croatian Island Products’ label for their original island products.
If you have been following our Original Croatian Souvenirs series, you are probably familiar with the term Croatian Island Product. These products, which are the result of both island tradition an innovation, are produced by islanders, often in small quantities, and include all sorts of goods such as wine, brandy, olive oil, cheese, jams and confectionery, cheese as well as cosmetic products, clothing items and other souvenir trinkets. We have already presented original island products of Murter, Brač and Cres.
This weekend, the ‘Original Island Products’ label will be given out to island manufacturers at an official ceremony, which will be held on Friday, October 13th in Preko, on the island of Ugljan, reports eZadar on October 11, 2017.
The “Croatian Island Product” project (HOP) is part of the innovative policy and practice of the European Union. It is focused on the sustainable development of the island with the aim of reducing the depopulation of the island and encouraging and reaffirming both traditional and innovative island production. HOP has been running for 11 years, and so far includes 279 island manufacturers from 24 Croatian islands and from Pelješac Peninsula, covering 880 products and product lines.
For all these years, the project has been identifying and supporting island production and goods of superior quality and high professional standards, offering the best of Croatian island tradition, regardless of whether these labelled products are raw materials, recipes or production technologies.
The “Croatian Island Product” project will be promoted for two days, on 13th and 14th October 2017. The detailed program of all events can be found below:
