Croatian National Theatre Wins FEDORA Award

Lauren Simmonds

More Croatian creativity, more Croatian talent and more awards.

The award-winning contemporary opera, Kein Licht (Eng. No Light) was co-produced by our very own Croatian National Theatre, alongside Opera Comique Paris. It went on to beat a staggering thirty opera projects and won the prestigious, much-sought-after FEDORA award this weekend in the Milan, Italy.

FEDORA is an organisation correlated with the Arts, which promotes opera and ballet fundraising for new achievements and co-production projects between opera houses, festivals and artists. Members of FEDORA include highly famous opera houses, festivals, ballet groups and music associations from 14 European countries, such as the Royal Opera House (United Kingdom), Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (France) and Theater Magdeburg (Germany).

Dubravka Vrgoc, the manager of HNK stated that winning such a tough competition that included some of the most famous European theatres was an honour. She concluded by saying that it is a significant recognition for the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, but also an equally important recognition of Croatian culture as a whole.

Kein Licht will be performed at festivals in Paris, Zagreb and Luxembourg next year.

Congratulations, HNK!
