This weekend brought a spike of rape reports in Split.

During the three days when Ultra Europe 2018 took place in Split, the police recorded a total of more than 300 incidents, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on July 10, 2018.

Yesterday it was reported that a 26-year-old American died at the Split hospital. His death was not a consequence of a crime.

In addition to this death, a series of other incidents were reported to the police, including three alleged rapes which took place during the festival’s three days.

The first case involves a 22-year-old woman from Finland who was with a large group partying in a pub, drinking alcohol in large quantities for several hours. When she left the venue and headed towards the Bačvice area, a young man approached her and she talked to him, and she soon confirmed him as a friend on Facebook. After that, he physically assaulted her in the darkness of a nearby park, where he tried to force her to have sex. When she refused, he forced her to have oral sex, after which she fled.

In the second case, a 22-year-old Australian citizen who came to Ultra reported that she was raped by an unknown male on Monday morning at about 4 am.

The third case of sexual abuse took place on Saturday when an 18-year-old Swedish woman reported that she was spending an evening with her friends at a Split nightclub, where she drank a few vodkas and met a Norwegian man. After they left the club, they called for a taxi. She reported to the police that the next thing she remembers is waking up in his bed in a rented apartment in the Kaštela area.
