Price? Lot less than you think
When it comes to the Croatian real estate market, it perfectly represents the selective success of local capitalism and the absurdities of our supply and demand. While on the coast half a million euro would only get you as far as 50 m square apartment on Stradun in Dubrovnik, or 100 m square on the hill of Marjan in Split, for the same amount of money you can purchase one of many glorious castles in Zagorje.
According to Slobodna Dalmacija, medieval castle in Zagorje with 10 bedrooms, 4 defense forts and over 50 000 square metres of land will set you back the above mentioned half a million euros. And as an added bonus you get your very own well, water, electric and phone connections and a panoramic views of the calming green hills and the Alps. Last but not least, main road is right under your nose.
Sounds too good to be true? Well, the stated castle is located in the village of Pršlin near Hum na Sutli, right by the Slovenian border.
One of the owners Zdravko Ilić explained why he decided to sell the castle ” I wanted to refurbish it for tourism purposes but unfortunately I got ill. Then I got distracted by other investments and no longer have time for the castle”
He purchased his half of the property from the local agricultural association since this baroque building used to house the local agricultural association store, an inn and a local butcher. Second half belongs to Tomislav Grozaj who lives in Slovenia. He inherited the property and his mother lived in it until the late 1980s.
Even though both owners had big plans and the property holds great sentimental value, they both want to sell the property as soon as possible.
So, if you’re just itching to own your very own castle, Pršlin awaits! And don’t worry, if you miss this opportunity there are plenty of other castles on offer. Apparently, there are more than 1000 castles in Croatia that are waiting for new owners with prices ranging from 500 000 euro to 5 million eur.
