During my last summer spent working at a souvenir shop in Zagreb, I got very confused on one occasion when a tourist tried to convince me Dubrovnik was located in Montenegro. My efforts to prove him wrong were fruitless, as he got more furious the longer I tried to explain Dubrovnik was part of Croatia. He visited Montenegro last year and had a lovely time in Dubrovnik, and that was the end of discussion.

Well, Dubrovački vjesnik published a photo they received from an unnamed reader clearing up some of that confusion: as it turns out, a certain Hungarian bus transport agency is promoting Dubrovnik as a destination in Montenegro.

The photo features an ad for bus lines connecting Hungary with Montenegrin gems such as Budva, Herceg Novi and… Dubrovnik. It’s not clear if this was an honest mistake or the agency’s marketing team hoped noone would notice; let’s be benevolent and say the move wasn’t a blatant try of messing with the borders. Here’s a tip: doing a quick online search next time before sending the ads to the print might be a good idea.
