The participants raised awareness about healthy lifestyles and breast cancer.
Bundek Lake in Zagreb hosted the Europa Donna Zagreb Pink Run charity race. Approximately 300 participants ran to raise awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles. In addition to the race, the participants took part in various educational and health workshops. The race was held ahead of the Pink Month which will be dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, reports Večernji List on September 26, 2018.
The race was held under the slogan “Get outside and defeat cancer!” and it drew together about 300 runners who wanted to help organisers raise awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles, which include proper nutrition, physical activity, regular self-examination and attending medical exams.
Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumour in women. The number of people affected by the illness, when the number of inhabitants of individual countries is taken into account, is higher in Croatia than in the rest of Europe and the number is further increasing. However, if the disease is discovered at an early stage, good treatment results and quality life are possible, said Vesna Ramljak, president of Europa Donna Croatia association.
“The possibility of getting better is very high if breast cancer is detected in time. Almost 98 percent of women whose cancer is detected at a very early stage of the disease have a very high chance of being cured,” she added, urging women to go to regular medical examinations, and also to perform self-examinations.
The race was accompanied by an interesting programme of activities for the entire family. To give their contribution to raising awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles, the organisers have prepared different educational, health and culinary workshops. Nutritionist Diana Gluhak provided advice, and mineral-vitamin status of participants’ bodies was measured.
The race was accompanied by music provided by DJ Simon M, singer Zsa Zsa and the Bang Bang band.
The Europa Donna Zagreb Pink Run charity run took place ahead of the Pink Month – October, which is dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Having a healthy lifestyle is important for health preservation and early detection of life-threatening illnesses.
