This Sunday night the chosen secret place for the dinner was Katran Museum, an unexpected and very „off“ space for a pop-up restaurant and dinner
On Sunday evening Zagreb welcomed Croatia’s second edition of roaming pop-up dinner series. Named The Gypsy Table, this interesting project initiated by Richard Gruica brings together the top culinary talent in Croatia and prepares the best locally-sourced products available, served up in the most beautiful and unique locations in the country. Pop-up dinners are one-time food events offering guests a taste of something different. These events cater to the “experiential diner”, one who craves not just an amazing meal, but a new and exciting dining experience.
Whether it’s an unexpected location, personal interaction with the chef, a unique menu or theme, pop-up dinners serve up something no ordinary restaurant can deliver. Maybe it’s a candlelit dinner in the courtyard of an ancient monastery or a communal table atop a secluded hilltop. One thing is certain – it is a totally unique evening and experience to remember.
This Sunday night the chosen secret place for the dinner was Katran Museum, an unexpected and very „off“ space for a pop-up restaurant and dinner, with the added value of Gypsy Cabaret. Since a big part of attending a Gypsy Table dinner is the excitement of the unknown, not only the location, the menu was also a surprise. Fifty guests received the information on the exact location, the chefs and the menu only a day ahead of the event. Gypsy Table is, among other things, a charity event as well. It supports and helps raise awareness of a unique local charity, with a portion of the proceedings being donated on behalf of Gypsy Table to the charity. By attending a Gypsy Table event, guests learn all about the charity and the good that they are doing by attending. It is the commitment of Gypsy Table to be a bridge between community and charitable organizations. This time the beneficiary was the International Women’s Club Zagreb in a joint activity with UNUO Centre, whose cause is the improvement of hospitality services for guests with disabilities.
Considering Christmas is just around the corner, guests were also asked to bring an unwrapped new toy that will be donated to children in need. The dinner featured Richard Gruica of Gypsy Table (Day on a Farm meal), Robert Hromalić from Time Pastry Shop (Lemon Confit), Teo Ivanišević from Pod Zidom Bistro & Wine Bar (breaded veal head and chestnut chips, couli of quince, oatmeal and white truffles), Marin Rendić from Bistro Apetit by Marin Rendić (fish filet), Vedran Stojanac from Dežman bar (meal with a fun title, Rabbit and Stream) , and Morana Petričević as project manager. The welcome drink cocktail Spicy Gipsy Sour was created by Zvonimir Lovrenčić from Acrobat and Marijan Maksan from Dežman bar created the cocktail „Forever,“ with golden leaves served as a second act. All the food, except for the dessert, was cooked on an open fire.
Gligora cheese, Chiavalon olive oil, exceptional food, amazing cocktails, superb wines (Meneghetti White, Krauthaker Chardonnay Rosenberg, Roxanich Merlot 2007 and Tomac sparkling rosé), craft beer, music by Gadjo Manouche Band, acrobats, fire eaters, fortune tellers – rounded off the „Gypsy“ experience. Zagreb, surely, wants more.
