Croatia is the first country in the region to offer the service.
Just a few days after the launch in Germany, Google Pay has arrived in Croatia. The service which makes it possible to use your phone to pay at shops and online was activated in Croatia on Wednesday. Croatia is the only country in the region in which the service is available. In the first phase, for Privredna Banka Zagreb’s clients, reports tportal.hr on August 1, 2018.
According to Google, Google Pay is available throughout Croatia at sales outlets that support contactless payments, on all Google platforms, for online payments as well as through apps marked with the Google Pay sign. The company said that the reason for coming to Croatia is the high level of digital literacy of citizens.
To use the service, you need to download the Google Pay app from the Google Play store and add the Visa Inspire debit card of Privredna Banka Zagreb. In a retail shop, you just “wake up” the smartphone and put it on the terminal for contactless payments. For transactions above 100 kuna, you must also unlock the mobile device as an additional security measure.
The Google Pay service is integrated into all Google products, enabling easier purchase of movies, books, and apps, as well as listing of all purchases in one place. Also, the service allows you to save vouchers, loyalty cards and gift cards, and use them when making payments.
What about security? While paying in a store, Google Pay shares the virtual account number instead of the actual credit card number, as well as a unique code that changes with each transaction. Also, in the event that the phone is stolen or lost, the user can use the “Find my device” option to lock the phone wherever it is, secure it with a new password, and even delete all personal information from the phone. However, there is no need to deactivate the card itself because data is not stored on the device.
The service is available to all Privredna Banka Zagreb customers, smartphone users running Android 5.0 Lollipop or later, as well as users of Visa Inspire debit card via the new PBZ mobile banking app or Google Pay app.
In addition to Croatia, Google Pay is available in 19 other countries and territories: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Poland, Russia, USA, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan , Ukraine and the UK.
