First scenes of the upcoming movie and series The General are due to be filmed from February 20, as the Večernji List daily reported
The motion picture will be centred around the character of Croatian general Ante Gotovina, while the storyline deals with the Homeland war of the 1990s, directed by Antun Vrdoljak, father-in-law of the Hollywood star Goran Višnjić, who is due to portray Gotovina, as Večernji List reported on February 8, 2017.
Višnjić is currently finishing filming the final scenes of the first season of Timeless, an NBC sci-fi series, so his arrival depends on the actual completion. Scenes for The General will be filmed on Dinara and Velebit mountains and all across Croatia. Filming is scheduled to take place until the end of June, with another one hundred actors joining Višnjić.
Certain media speculated on the arrival of Penelope Cruz, but this will not be the case. “It would have been wonderful to see Penelope in the role of the general’s first wife. It was theoretically possible as she shares an agent with Višnjić. But the price of her involvement was simply too high,” explained people close to the director. Her place will be taken by Zrinka Cvitešić, who recently landed a role in a movie produced and directed by Woody Harrelson.
