Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior III Visiting Rijeka Next Week

Total Croatia News

We’re witnessing a growing number of eco-friendly events and intiatives on the Adriatic coast each week: there have been numerous beach clean-ups recently, hard-working volunteer divers are cleaning seabeds, and now we’re headed for another environmentally conscious event.

The legendary Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior III is sailing into Rijeka’s waters next week! The green beauty is visiting to show support for the ongoing campaign warning the public and the European leaders about the growing problem of plastic pollution in the sea, and appealing to big manufacturing companies to recycle plastic.

The ship will dock at Karolina Riječka pier and will be open for public on July 11 from 16:00 to 19:00, as well as on July 12 from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 18:00. The entrance is free for all visitors, and the crew is also preparing a guided tour of the ship.

Not planning a visit to Rijeka next week? No need to worry, as you’ll still be able to look around the ship via Facebook live videos. The Rainbow Warrior III is known as the first ship in Greenpeace’s fleet that was purposely designed and built following Greenpeace’s guidelines, and special attention has been paid to principles of sustainability and environment protection. According to Greenpeace, she has electric drive engines, but sails mostly under wind power and has a hull shape designed specifically for superior energy efficiency.

Until she sails into Rijeka, you can take a virtual tour in this YouTube video:
